Major Cycles (Daeun) and Annual Fortune (Seun)

The rhythm of life in 10-year, 1-year, and 1-month layers

If the four pillars freeze the cosmic energy of your birth moment, Daeun (Major Cycle) and Seun (Annual Fortune) are the living current that flows over that frozen pattern. People with identical charts live different lives because their Daeun and Seun unfold differently.

What is the Daeun?

Daeun is the major cycle of fortune that shifts every ten years. Starting from the month pillar, the heavenly stems and earthly branches advance in sequence, with the direction depending on gender and the polarity of the birth year.

The first Daeun begins between roughly age 1 and 10, varying per person. A full lifetime usually spans 8–9 Daeun.

"Good Daeun" means that period's stem and branch correspond to your Useful God and Happy God. "Bad Daeun" means the Taboo God is strongly active.

Seun and Wolun

Seun (annual fortune) is the energy of a given year, decided by its stem and branch. This is what people commonly mean by "this year's fortune."

Seun rides on the Daeun. A favorable Daeun cushions a difficult Seun; an unfavorable Daeun limits the lift of a good Seun. The Daeun is the prevailing current; the Seun is the wind of each year.

Wolun (monthly fortune) shows even shorter cycles, useful for small decisions, but the long-term direction is still set by the Daeun.

Transitions and clashes

The transition between Daeun is a major turning point. When a new Daeun's stem or branch clashes with your original chart, big shifts cluster — moves, career changes, marriages, business launches.

A heavenly-stem clash brings mental shifts and turning-point decisions.

An earthly-branch clash brings environmental change and relational turbulence. Clashes with the day branch are especially linked to changes in the home — marriage, separation, family events.

How to use the Daeun in practice

In a Useful-God Daeun, advance boldly. New businesses, marriages, career moves all tend to bear fruit during these periods.

In a Taboo-God Daeun, prioritize stability and defense. Avoid reckless expansion; invest in health, relationships, learning, and self-development instead.

Prepare during transitions. The environment usually starts to stir 1–2 years before a Daeun changes, so plan ahead to avoid being swept away.

Daeun and Seun are not a verdict but a map. Knowing your cyclic rhythm — when to push, when to consolidate — lets the same effort produce far greater results.
