Meaning and Use of Sinsal (Stars)
Auspicious stars that brighten a chart and inauspicious ones that warn
Sinsal (Shen Sha) are special energies that arise from specific character combinations in a chart. "Sin" means auspicious stars, "sal" means inauspicious ones. While Day Master, elements, Ten Gods, and Useful God form the main reading, Sinsal add color and detail.
Major auspicious stars
Cheoneul Guiin (Heavenly Noble): the most precious star. Guarantees that help appears in difficulty, brings social standing and skill in overcoming crises.
Munchang Guiin (Literary Star): favors academia and exams. Outstanding study, strong test-taking, and gifts in writing, teaching, and research.
Cheondeok / Woldeok Guiin (Heavenly / Monthly Virtue): protective stars that ward off calamity and attract blessing.
Geumyeo (Golden Carriage): brings a noble spouse and improves wealth through marriage.
Stars that warn
Yangin (Goat Blade): a star of strong energy and decision. Useful for soldiers, police, surgeons — but tempers can run hot.
Goegang (Kuiguang): a stubborn, willful star. Excels in scholarship and martial arts, but loneliness often follows.
Baekho (White Tiger): a star of accidents and surgery. Yet in medicine, law, and security, it can grant remarkable capability.
Gyeopsal (Robbery Star): warns of sudden financial loss or accident. Inclines toward speculation; demands prudence.
Dual-natured stars
Dohwa (Peach Blossom): attraction and romantic charisma. A great asset in arts, entertainment, and service — but caution against romantic scandal.
Yeokma (Post Horse): movement and change. Strong for trade, transport, and diplomacy, but settling in one place is hard.
Hwagae (Canopy): inclination toward scholarship and religion. Excellent for researchers and artists, but social discomfort and a preference for solitude often follow.
Hongyeom (Red Charm): intense romantic appeal. Brilliant in arts and entertainment, but like Dohwa, demands awareness of romantic gossip.
Reading Sinsal correctly
Sinsal do not determine fate by themselves. Even with an inauspicious star, a balanced chart with a working Useful God softens its impact. Even with many auspicious stars, a weak overall structure limits their effect.
Sinsal is the seasoning, not the main course. Read the Day Master's strength, elemental balance, and Useful God first; then layer in Sinsal as nuance.
Do not fear inauspicious stars too much — they are signals of vulnerability. When you understand and prepare, they often turn into strengths.
Sinsal are an auxiliary tool and a window into your distinctive energies. Treat auspicious stars as cues to capitalize on, and inauspicious ones as cues to prepare — they enrich the texture of self-understanding.
